THE POLISH-AMERICAN MEDICAL SOCIETY
The Polish-Medical
Society was established in 1946 in order to facilitate social
and professional relations along with improving the status
of the Polish émigré physicians in American institutions.
These goals had been accomplished. The Society has also widened
its visibility by active, often pioneering participation in
numerous activities benefiting Polonia and Poland. The Polish-American
Medical Society is a charitable, non-profit, tax-exempt organization.
Today, the Society celebrates its 60th
anniversary and is a leader in the Chicago metropolitan area
and one of the most prestigious organizations of its kind
in the world.
In the sixties and seventies the activities initiated or carried
out by the Society led to better recognition of Polish science
and culture in the United States (to mention some: publications,
erection and maintenance of the Nicholas Copernicus monument
in Chicago, celebration of the 1000th - year anniversary of
Poland).
Currently, the Society plays a key role in the Polish medical
emigration movement all over the world. It is a member of
the Chicago Medical Society, The Polish American Congress,
The Federation of Polish Organizations Abroad. Its members
represent numerous medical specialties and many are professors
at Chicago area universities.
Over the years the Society has organized
numerous fundraisers for charitable causes such as: two Educational
Funds of the Polish-American Medical Society, medical assistance
for needy Poles during martial law in Poland, donations to
the Polish Museum of America, the Lira Ensemble, the Polish-American
Association, A Gift of the Heart Foundation, victims of floods
in Poland in 1997 and 2001, the Charitable Foundation of the
Polish American Congress, the Kosciuszko Foundation.
The Society organizes the prestigious annual Physicians' Ball
(55 of them already), picnics, alpine skiing and tennis competitions,
participates in local actions for Polonia, but most importantly,
it unites and represents medical, dental and veterinarian
Polish-American physicians.
Currently, the Society has over 400
